Richard Gardner first coined the term “Parental Alienation Syndrome” in 1985, but the basic concept had been recognized and given other names by many psychologists and professionals who work with divorcing families. PAS is an all too common problem when couples are unhappy, in the process of divorcing, during a remarriage and during other times of family upheaval.
