Divorce Busting With Michele Weiner-Davis > The philosophy behind the popular Busting program is that it's never too late to save a marriage. Busting offers a practical approach to saving a marriage. Marriage therapist and best-selling author Michele Weiner Davis, M.S.W., developed a creative, successful approach for coaching couples who were having marital difficulties and contemplating divorce. She wrote her best seller, Busting, in 1992 and has been helping couples repair their marriages since then. Avoiding Unnecessary Divorce Dr. Weiner-Davis advises couples how to avoid unnecessary divorce. Her six books, her lectures, and her Busting Center, with offices in Colorado and Illinois, help untold numbers of couples stay together through difficult times. Thousands of visitors find help on her website every day. She lives the life she tells others to live: Dr. Weiner-Davis and her husband have been married for more than 30 years. The Truth About Divorce Dr. Weiner-Davis began her counseling career as many therapists do: helping patients who think they want a to adjust to the idea of being single and go forward with their divorces and their new single lives. However, the woman behind Busting discovered that virtually no one found the happiness they sought by getting a divorce. She discovered that getting a nearly always created more problems for her patients than it solved. Instead of helping clients find the path to divorce, she set about trying to help them divorce-proof their marriages. The Sex-Starved Marriage Dr. Weiner-Davis has written a self-help book called The Sex-Starved Marriage: A Couple's Guide To Boosting Their Marital Libido.

Should a Child be Allowed to Choose Which Parent to Live With After Divorce?
<div><p><strong>Question:</strong></p> <p>I have two children, my son is twelve and my daughter is six. My husband and I are divorcing and my son wants to live with his father. He told me that the reason he wants to live with his Dad is that he doesn't want him to be lonely.</p> <p>What is your opinion on allowing a child to live where they want after a divorce? Should I be concerned about him being separated from his sister? Am I wrong to think that my son not wanting his Dad to be lonely isn't a good reason for living with his Dad? <p>My ex had no outside interest. His life revolved around family and work. If he wasn't at work, every time I turned around I bumped into him. The new bill will allow couples to divorce by mutual consent or unilaterally.</p> <p>Governor Paterson said in a statement. "These bills fix a broken process that produced extended and contentious litigation, poisoned feelings between the parties and harmed the interests of those persons -- too often women -- who did not have sufficient financial wherewithal to protect their legal rights. I commend the sponsors on providing a real and effective legislative solution to a problem that has for too long bedeviled ordinary New Yorkers."</p>...<p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://divorcesupport.about.com/b/2010/08/16/new-york-goes-no-fault.htm">Read Full Post</a></p>

Complaints about low levels of sexual desire top the list of issues couples bring to marriage therapists, and Busting addresses this issue in Dr. Weiner-Davis's book. She recognizes the importance of addressing the sexual aspect of a marriage as part of the process of saving the marriage. She discusses how hormones, medication, illness, and fatigue can prevent couples from "just doing it." The Remedy This seven-step program for saving a marriage is the foundation of Busting. Dr. Weiner-Davis discusses the peril of relying on friends and family for marital advice. Seeing an unhappy person in pain, most loved ones will steer the unhappy husband or wife to the path of least resistance, divorce, instead of encouraging the individual to invest some time and energy into the marriage. Busting accurately points out that the couple is already bound for life if they have children, so they may as well try to work things out.
